William McCall in Greenfield, Oldham

My wife and I were recommended William McCall for our extension project in 2014 and found them to be extremely good from the moment we got in touch. Our project wasn't simple, our house has a flat concrete roof which needed a lot of thinking about to accommodate the large open plan downstairs we had in mind, and the tweaks to the upstairs layout. Steve came out and visited us several times to discuss ideas, before undertaking the work, and he kept us reassured at every stage. His drawings were excellent, something our builder commented on several times, and he helped us pick our way through what can be a difficult process with input and responsibilities from so many different suppliers. We're delighted with everything he's done with our house, and with the service we received, and can't recommend Steve or William McCall highly enough.

I used William McCall Architects to draw up some plans for an extension we built last year 2014. We paid in full but unfortunately for us Steve's the Architect's plans were drawn incorrectly. This lead to a chain of events that ultimately cost us, the customer, thousands of pounds. The work had already started by the builders that we had instructed QRBS who were recommended on the architects website and the price agreed. The incorrect drawings meant that additional costs of materials and labour. Steve blamed the builders for not noticing the error, the builders blamed him. We had also given the builders additional work within our home as we needed a complete renovation and we moved out of the property. The work which these builders carried out was not to standard and it has cost us thousands to put things right, in fact we are still putting our home back together. We enlisted the services of a Chartered building surveyor for an independent expert witness report and his findings confirmed our fears of how bad the work was. I sent this report to both Steve and Bill from Mccall Architects and asked them to take QRBS off their recommended list of builders, so no other customer would be left in the same position that they left us in. They agreed, yet 3 months later these builders are back on the list. I question both their integrity and their competency and I would strongly advise not to use these architects and opt for one who is a member of RIBA.

We contacted this company to provide architectural services for our house. Steve visited us as home and was extremely knowledgable and helpful. We felt then that we were in safe hands and can only say that everything from this company was five star throughout the build. Whenever we had a concern or question, Steve was available to answer. His knowledge of local council practice was superb, and certainly my saved us from the additional stress that we had due to the build being undertaken just as Covid hit the UK. Steve also recommended some builders to us. All of them were decent, but the ones that we eventually chose (Final Fix) have been life savers. The build has been done expertly and we are still in touch with them every time we want a little addition doing. Steve talked us through the process, and helped us to communicate our ideas into the house that we have now. After getting ripped off by other companies (bad experiences), I feel so grateful that we found William McCalls. We will use them again whenever we need and we would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone looking for an architect. Expert knowledge, good communication and reasonable charges.
