Charles Bates Roofing in Middleton, Manchester

In July 2011 this company (Charles Bates) inspected my roof, which was leaking in a couple of places. I was advised that my existing tiles could be reused with only the broken ones needing to be replaced. He provided me with two quotes, one to carry out repairs to felt and pointing all ridges and valleys and one to remove all existing tiles, replacing all felt and new battons, with new lead valleys and retiling complete roof using same tiles, except for breakages, supplying and fitting new rows of tiles where needed.
I decided to go with the second quote and commissioned the work to start asap.
He told me the valleys needed re-leading and were too narrow for my size of roof and they would need widening, which they did.

In December 2013 I had rain coming in via my false ceiling in my bathroom. Dec 16 2013, I rang the roofer (Charles Bates), who said he would come up the same day, but he failed to turned up or contact me to rearrange visit.
On 20 Dec I had another workman look at my roof. He said, at the top of the valley in the vicinity of the leak, there was a nail through the felt and he had to replace a couple of tiles and re-cement them in. This however did not cure the leak, Dec 28 rain was still coming in.
I made a number of attempts to get Charles Bates to come up and find/repair the leak, without success.
Finally, on 23 July 2014 he got back to me and arranged to come up on Saturday after 11 am, once again he failed to show.
On 11 August I left a message for Bates informing him that my roof was still leaking.
18 Aug 2014 @ 7.30 am, Bates rang and arranged to come @ 9am that day. He came, said he'd found leak and fixed it.
September 14 2015, woke up to water on my bathroom floor, water dripping from ceiling, coming in in exactly same place as before.
Not wanting to go through all previous hassle of trying to get Bates to put this right, and having lost faith in his abilities, I got another roofing firm to look at it.
They said I had been badly advised to reuse the old tiles and they had never seen such a bad roofing job, light was coming in in roof space, batten missing, and valleys were much too wide and uneven, with cement breaking up and falling away. They provided me with photos of the valley where they feel the water is coming in, and have said these valleys need replacing.
There is not much I can do about a large section of my roof, where old tiles were replaced, as I have since had Solar Panels fitted.
This is why I would advise anyone thinking of hiring this firm to think again!!!
