James is the fourth generation stonemason in his family. With his Great Grandfather starting the original J. Wright & Son stonemasons on the corner of Suffolk road Ipswich in the late 1800's the shop later moved to Cemetery Road in Ipswich following bomb damage. The shop and name still remain in cemetery road today although the shop is no longer owned by the family It is a true testament to the families reputation in the town and the stonemasonry industry that the companies who have owned the shop since have kept our family name.
The family business was sold in the late 1980's and James' Father went to work for the co-op masonry department where James joined him in 1993. In November 2008 the co-op shut down the Ipswich department and contracted the work out to Norfolk. With stonemasonry running through his veins it was in February 2009 James decided to start up as J. Wright Stonemason and we have been running a successful family business ever since.
