The Helen Laxton School of Dance was founded in Yeovil in 1987. Since this date thousands of children have learnt to dance at the school and many have gone on to have successful careers in dance.
Many of our students have gained places top Vocational dance and drama schools including The Royal Ballet School, The Royal Academy of Dance, Central School of Ballet, Laine Theatre Arts, Laban Centre, Stella Mann, Millenium, Italia Conti, Hammond School, The Urdang Academy, Arts Educational Schools, Performers College. Past pupils are currently performing in The West End, in ballet companies in the UK abroad, in television, in films, in promotional work, modelling, as dance critics and teaching all over the world.
The school has excellent examination results in both Royal Academy Ballet Grades & Vocational Examinations and in Modern Theatre Dance Examinations with many pupils each year achieving top marks. We are the only school in the area teaching Royal Academy of Dance Ballet to Advanced 2 & Grade 8 level and the ISTD Modern Syllabus to Advanced level. We are also the only school in the area training teachers for The Royal Academy of Dance Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies which allows our students to become fully qualified Ballet teachers with a degree which is recognised world wide.
