I am the owner of alpha estate planners and wish to respond to the above review.

We undertook to prepare wills, trusts and land registry work as well as two Lasting powers of Attorney for this client for what was a very reasonable fee.

All clients were then given the option of having their LPAs registered with the OPG. Most clients took us up on the offer but some, because of the extra fees involved opted to (against our best advice) not register the documents until they were required (ie the client had started to show signs of losing their capacity). This particular client was one of the few who opted to not register at the time.

We then wrote to all of our clients that had unregistered LPAs and advised them to actually register them with the OPG as any mistakes on the document (as is confirmed in the lady's review, there were no mistakes in our document) cannot be rectified once the donor has lost capacity.

Quite what this client's solicitor was doing making new documents for the client if he had already lost his capacity I'm not sure. The client stated that our documents had been done to a high standard and so should only have needed to be registered then.

I had offered to help the lady when she called but she wouldn't let me get a word in edge ways, called us conmen despite me assuring her that if there are no problems with the document that I would help her to register it now.

There was no offer of compensation as we had done nothing wrong as is confirmed by our paperwork whereby the clients requested Lasting Power of Attorney (unregistered).

Having been in business since 2006 and having never had a bad review before now, I feel disgruntled. I feel for the lady but ignoring our advice and then blaming us is not really on.

Alpha Estate Planners

In 2009 I engaged and paid £687 to Alpha Estate Planners to do our wills and Lasting Power of Attorney. My husband now has dementia and I saw my solicitor this week with the LPA only to be told that the content was correct they had not been registered and were not worth the paper they were written on. I now have to hope that it is not too late to have another done, the cost £710. I phoned AEP on 24/4/15 and was told it was my fault, no apology, just that I had not asked for them to be registered. When I tried to reason with them I was shouted at. Why would I engage "professionals" if I had to do it myself. There is nothing on any of their paperwork to suggest they did not finish the job. I understand these professionals are not regulated like solicitors. Beware.
