Brett Bakeries in Needham Market, Ipswich

I have been buying bakery items from this shop since moving to Needham Market three years ago. It is good to have somewhere you can buy locally freshly baked bread - it is a world away from the mass-produced steam-baked and usually tasteless bread available in supermarkets.
However, what is questionable is the staff's understanding of basic food hygiene, Tongs are in evidence, but invariably staff will grasps items of bread and rolls taken from the shelves with hands that have just been in contact with coins and dirty bank notes proffered by the customers. My request to have my bread rolls put into a bag using tongs was met with some incredulity, rolling of eyes and sighing, along with a comment that 'normal customers don't object'. Well, perhaps accommodating the needs of 'abnormal' customers would be worth a thought...
