COMBER & SON in Sharpthorne, East Grinstead

I asked Comber and Son (East Grinstead area) for quotations for a number of small jobs. They were a bit expensive but I decided to proceed with one job. Plastering my 20ft x 10 feet lounge for over £900.

Firstly they brought a load of material on site to carry out the other work that I had not instructed them to do and they also took up my patio (one of the jobs for which they had quoted) and have refused to relay it.

They did not remove the skirting or the sockets and light switches. There were very uneven patches, dents and some parts just not done. I told them I was not going to pay for that so they got the plaster back again who undertook some remedial work (the most obvious patches) and sanded down without using dust covers.

Combers advise me that it is normal not to remove sockets and plugs when re-plastering! They told me that the poor finish between the ceiling and the walls was not their responsibility as they had not done the ceiling. They had and even if they had not done the ceiling they would have been doing the walls after the ceiling had been done so double fail. The contract manager seemed unaware of what they were supposed to be doing and more interested in winning an argument than providing a good quality service.

I told them I would not pay for an incomplete job and six months later the work is still not complete.
