Shocking, disgusting behaviour from the owners of this shop.....Never had a problem in all the years I have used it, till I went in today to pick up a parcel that had been left there. First of all, I sent my son to run in and fetch it, while I waited in the car, (baring in mind, they know my son as we always order books, football stickers etc from there). My son came out of the shop in tears, after being told by the woman, "you can't just come in here and pick up a parcel, it needs a signature". I then went into the shop, apologised for not realising that I needed to sign for it. She then attacked me verbally to say that she still had loads of copies of build your own body parts behind the counter that I had not collected since July!
I was shocked that first, this had come out of the blue, as I had cancelled theses 5 months earlier via text, and secondly, that they had left it 5 months to raise the subject without any contact via text, phone call, or in person, seeing as I frequent their shop and the surrounding shops all the time. They continually went on at me that they cannot send these books back, and they are out of pocket, I then tried to diffuse the situation in a very professional manner, which is how I deal with my clients on a daily basis in my job, by telling them that I would pay for all the copies, although I was annoyed that they had left it for such a long time and let the collection build up without contacting me to see if I still wanted them. The extremely rude lady then went in a drawer behind the counter, and produced (wait for it) 1 copy of the magazine! I was dumbfounded, I asked where the rest were, to which she replied, oh, we sent them back. I couldn't believe that they had created all this drama, upset and confusion all for £6!!! Oh course being as courteous as ever, I paid the £6, signed for my parcel, that I had originally gone in for, and told them that I had never ever seen such disgusting behaviour towards a customer, and that I certainly would not be using their services ever again. The rude woman laughed in my face, although the man did try to apologise.
I feel sorry for small businesses that try to keep their business successful, but Cornish News does not deserve anything but pity in my opinion. I live in the area, my son attends school in the area, my family and friends live in the area, and I will certainly be passing on my experience to others, as I would not want anybody else to go through what myself and my son went through, just to collect a parcel.
I just went on to site to get the phone number,I could not believe the long winded review I just read so felt it needed a reply. We moved to Coronation ave Alvaston 3yrs ago and just wanted to say people and shops all friendly and the news paper shop,ie owners Charlie and Xena and staff really go out their way to help you. So if you've read the bad review Please do not judge on it,can only think it a isolated problem and somebody did not like the outcome. I Gen enjoy my visits every day to get my paper etc as know will always get a nice friendly service. Regards john.b.
