The House Project Centre in Saltdean, Brighton
The House Project Centre
Hello Tina L, I'm one of the managers at the Saltdean House Project Centre and I am sorry that you had a bad experience at the shop. We get a lot of electrical items that are broken or need attention and unfortunately we have no facilities or staff to mend these, we only have an electrician to check that they are in working safe order. All other items are disposed of to recycling and this costs the charity an enormous amount of money each year which is why we decline such items. Not having been there at the time I cannot comment on what happened but can only assure you that all the volunteers are friendly, helpful and UNPAID! Please do not let this experience put you off using our shop, 100% goes back into the community and we are proud of our work. Noelyne.
I have been doing volunteer work for the last 20 years of my life and never come across such a rude bunch in all of my life. An old gentleman came in with some electrical stuff to donate today. He was refused by a Volunteer. I know what it feels like when this happens as he thought he was doing such a good thing. I noticed as he picked up his printer or whatever there was an apple sign on the top. I turned to the gentleman to ask if I could I hand him of this he replied that it was a iPad and that it needed some attention. As soon as the volunteer and so called manageress heard this they acted like mad women trying to snatch it out of my hand. I know they do good work and occasionally things come along that they pay a discount for but this woman is a disgrace to charity. I am an epileptic and have my own charity. I have been using this shop since I moved to Saltdean 11 years ago. I won't be using it anymore.
